Melbourne International Games Week (MIGW) is an annual celebration of Victorian game developers, bringing together a wealth of talent across all segments of the gaming ecosystem. Unfortunately, only a few months out from its start date, 2021’s event suffered the same fate as 2020 when COVID-19 restrictions limited the amount of live events that could occur.

Our solution was to recreate a number of key elements of the week and celebrate it on the world’s leading videogame platform, Steam. Across 4 days leading up to MIGW, the virtual MIGW Steam Festival was live, running a combination of bespoke panels, live game demos, mini-concerts and a 60-game Victorian developer sale, all designed to promote Victoria’s game development community and in turn, highlight the incredible support that Creative Victoria provides this community.

Over the course of the 4 days, over 1,000,000 unique visitors dropped by the MIGW Steam Festival from all over the world and more than 145,000 hours of video content was consumed over the period, positioning Victoria as a key region for global game development.
